You may have written down some New Year’s resolutions in the past couple of days. If you haven’t, not to worry some skeptics even argue that they are simply a waste of time.
New Year’s resolutions aren’t exactly a waste of time; however, resolution and good intentions are just not enough to institute long-lasting change and results.
Probably one of its biggest short comings is the grandiose ideas of massive change only once a year without a real plan of implementation.
Also, if I am miserable with an issue in my life, but it is only April, it seems absurd to wait 8 months to re-evaluate a new list of grandiose change.
The concept behind the tradition of setting New Year’s resolutions, that of self-reflection and goal setting, can be a very powerful tool if given direction and fueled with the right plan of action.
Truth be told, in any specific area in your life that you are not implementing some form of self-reflection, maintenance, or growth, that area is probably being neglected. If you took a deeper look, you would most likely see where that neglect or avoidance, both intentional and unintentional, has had a negative impact and provided you unwanted results, disappointment or misery.It is based upon this pretense; that self-evaluation in the setting of resolution and goals can be the starting point for long-lasting change and results.
Though this is relative to any subject matter in your life, for the nature of this blog, we will look at the physical health impact of setting some goals and resolution for your 2019.
It is estimated that over 90% of the New Year’s resolutions incorporate bettering health in some form of another.
Approximately 80% focus on wanting to lose weight. The irony, is that these percentages are rising each year rather than lowering, even with incorporating awareness and good intentions.
Why then, if people are becoming more aware of the necessity to better their health and lose weight, is there still no change; instead we are left with this “Groundhog Day” effect?
Simply put, good intentions and self-awareness without the right direction, plan, or course of action just aren’t enough.
I want to commend you if you even took the time to write down your New Year’s resolutions and planned to put the right foot forward in this New Year.
