How to Stop Dieting and Why Diets Don’t Work
An estimated 45 million Americans go on a diet each year, and Americans spend $33 billion each year on weight loss products. Yet, nearly two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese.
Both the complete desperation and compelling urge for people to spend billions each year is proof that the subject of weight loss deeply effects our society as a whole.
From self-consciousness to physical limitations, many people feel that their size and health are keeping them from being the person they truly are. People who are overweight are also at higher risk for developing serious health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stroke, arthritis, gallbladder disease, and cancer.
So what do we do? How do we change and break this perpetual pattern of declining health?
It can be done! Just as you move from one place to another. No matter how many empty promises you hear, one has mastered the “beam me up Scotty” approach. Expecting long lasting, instantaneous results is simply ridiculous and just doesn’t happen.
However, there is a very realistic, practical, and doable approach out there that is much simpler and less exhausting. By simply placing one foot in front of the other, and implementing a step by step approach, you can transform your health and the health of those you love.
Think back for a moment to last year. Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday? Yet, 365 days went by, 52 weeks, and 8,760 hours. What would happen, if you invested just a few hours a week out of the 8,760 hours in this upcoming year implementing a step by step health plan? If this next year flies by as fast as its predecessors, wouldn’t that seem almost instantaneous in the timeline of your life?
Why is it that we freeze or freak out when initially considering long term change? We have become a society of instant gratification and want the fastest results with the least amount of commitment. This is not meant to condemn, after all, life in general, moves at a faster pace. No one is denying that the many expectations placed on most individuals are often more than can be completed in an day, making a good nights sleep, literally, something to dream about.
The key is to implement a simple, realistic, and do-able approach.
That is what we strive to create in our community here at Keys2Eating. A real life, day by day approach, towards better health.
This is not about fitting into that little bitty yellow polka dot bikini. It’s about loving the person you are today, giving yourself the gift of becoming the healthiest version of you. Learning what it will take to help your family and those you care about, tap into their ultimate health.
It’s about not being a slave to food cravings, depression or hormonal imbalances. Not being afraid of what the doctor might say at your next check up; not being afraid of diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, Alzheimer’s and dementia. It’s about not giving up. It’s about knowing you committed to doing your best and living the life that you want to live in the body that you choose to have.
No matter your story, genetic predisposition, or body type. You can be healthy or healthier.
Diets don’t work simply because they are temporary adjustments instead of a transformation. Diets are short term, quick fixes, superficial band aids that do not fix the underlying issue.
Here at Keys2Eating, we don’t believe in dieting. We live. In our lives we choose what we will and will not do. We are in control of what we offer to ourselves and to those we love. Food is a gift, it is intended to give life, energy, health, and nourishment. Food is satiating and pleasurable. Food is medicine to our bodies.
Diets don’t work because they represent a bad relationship that most people have with food and their bodies. This codependent, love-hate relationship. We love to eat, then hate ourselves for over indulging and the size of our love handles.
For some, food has become companionship, for others, therapeutic. For many, they believe, they can’t afford to eat healthy, or that their genes dictate their health. Many people simply don’t know what to eat, and are victims of food labeling propaganda, and the infamous “Food Pyramid”.
Whatever the reason, whatever your story, you are in the right place.
You will learn how to help your body heal from years of neglect and consumption of unhealthy foods, in order to support your weight loss goals and to aid you on your journey towards the healthiest you.
